"JVC have a huge car audio division that is already on the game in the states and 2005 could be the year they get the recognition they deserve in the UK through their EXAD range.
The 551 is an update to last year's best selling 501 series and adds an SD memory card facility on which you can store MP3, WMA and PICT files. The rest of the features remain true to the original in a perfect example of "if it aint broke, don't fix it".
The PICT system is great if you want to customise your display with logos, text or small animated movies.
The sound quality from the unit is very good. CD audio playback is clear and precise and with the EQ settings bypassed, the bass, mid range and treble are crisp and detailed. Playing an MP3 encoded at 192kbps or above sounds exactly like the original CD.
The quality doesn't drop the more you turn things up either which is a must if you want to be the centre of attention at your local cruise.
A solid head unit that looks good, and plays great."
